Your Unique Dosha — The Expression of Your Mind & Body
In Ayurveda, we are understood as expressions of the five elements, which come together within us as the doshas.
Vata dosha - air & space
Pitta dosha - fire & water
Kapha dosha - earth & water
At the moment of conception, your prakruti is formed—your unique constitutional blueprint. It reflects the natural qualities you carry throughout your lifetime, such as your physical features and innate tendencies—perhaps a wellspring of creativity, a nimble mind, or a grounded, steady nature. Your prakruti serves as a compassionate guide, always inviting you back toward balance as you move through the natural changes and fluctuations of life, known as vikruti.
Vikruti represents the temporary shifts that can arise in the mind, emotions, or body when you move out of harmony with your original nature. Each of us experiences these imbalances differently, influenced by our individual doshic makeup, our stage of life, and the rhythms of the seasons. Through understanding both prakruti and vikruti, you gain a gentle awareness of how to return to your inherent state of balance and well-being.
To deepen your understanding of your unique doshic nature, you’re invited to gently explore the list below and notice which physical and emotional qualities feel most like you. Many people recognize one predominant dosha, while others may resonate with two or more, and within all of us, there are qualities of each. Let this be a compassionate process of self-discovery rather than definition.
